Giving Back to the Waterways That Sustain Us

For another month, volunteers from different sectors came together yesterday, for the ๐—จ๐—š๐—ฆ๐—”๐—— ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—–๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ป-๐˜‚๐—ฝ ๐——๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ along the Jaro Floodway in Brgy. Bito-on, Jaro, Iloilo City. Working along the floodway and its surrounding coastal ecosystem, participants collected sacks of plastic bottles, mixed waste, and other debris to help keep our waterways cleaner and protect the natural environment that surrounds them.

Along the Jaro Floodway, where mangroves quietly do their part in protecting our communities, we did ours by clearing waste that never belonged there in the first place.

This initiative continues to grow because of people who showed up and willingly give their time and effort. Our heartfelt gratitude to:
– Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)
– Iloilo City General Services Office (GSO)
– Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)
– Philippine National Police (ICPO and PRO 6)
– University of San Agustin Organizations (USA Student Government; National Service Reserve Corps; Sigma Chi Fraternity and Mu Sigma Phi Sorority)
– Barangay Officials of Brgy. Bito-on led by Punong Barangay Hon. Junalyn Provido
– Barangay Health Workers
– Barangay Tanods

Environmental stewardship is not built in a day. It is built month after month, clean-up after clean-up, by people who choose to care.
