Sedfrey Cabaluna: Beneath the Surface
Beneath the surface, away from the pace of public life, Sedfrey Cabaluna finds clarity and purpose in the ocean. As a Certified Dive Master, diving is more than a personal passion—it reflects his deep respect for nature and his commitment to protecting the coastal communities whose lives are closely tied to the sea.
This connection extends beyond personal experience through UGSAD, a coastal clean-up and environmental drive that mobilizes youth, civic groups, and local residents in protecting Iloilo’s natural resources. The program affirms Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water), grounded in the belief that lasting progress begins with shared responsibility for the environment.
Each dive calls for discipline, focus, and trust in the people around you. The same qualities that guide him in public service are present underwater: careful preparation, calm decision-making, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Through every descent and every project in the water, his understanding of the marine environment grows deeper, strengthening his commitment to protecting coastal communities and promoting sustainable development.
Diving with the Community
For Sedfrey, diving has always been about people. It creates opportunities to work with local dive professionals, train with young enthusiasts, and open the ocean to those who are experiencing it for the first time.
One of the most meaningful expressions of this is the heritage-to-adventure program that connects cultural tourism with marine conservation. After an enriching heritage tour in Miagao, participants travel to Gerbo Dive Resort in Anini-y, Antique, where they are welcomed into an environment that showcases both local hospitality and the beauty of the sea.
Through Discover Scuba Diving and free diving sessions, first-time divers are guided safely into the water by a team of experienced instructors and dive masters. Exploring the coastal waters of Anini-y and Nogas Island becomes more than a recreational activity—it becomes an introduction to the importance of protecting marine ecosystems and supporting sustainable tourism.
These shared experiences strengthen partnerships with local communities, create opportunities for environmental education, and inspire a deeper appreciation for the natural resources that sustain livelihoods across the region.
Empowering Coastal Communities
The ocean teaches patience, balance, and respect—principles that continue to shape how Sedfrey serves both people and the environment.
Underwater, there are no titles or positions—only awareness, responsibility, and trust in the team beside you. It is a space that demands humility and rewards preparation, a reminder that leadership is not only about direction, but about stewardship.
Every dive is a quiet affirmation of a larger mission: to protect what sustains communities, to promote responsible tourism, and to ensure that future generations inherit waters that are as rich and life-giving as they are today.
For Sedfrey Cabaluna, service does not end at the shoreline.
It continues beneath the surface—where purpose, environment, and community meet.
